» dantilles - What is Scotland's place in Britain?
Just wanted to see if anyone was willing to discuss things following from my latest blog. Should Scotland be granted independece or more autonomy? Can the Scots be labelled as racist for their views on the English? Why are the Welsh less fervent in their anti-Englishness? Are the English to blame for being disliked? Does this situation compare to any other regions in the world you have experience of?
Personally I believe that in an ideal world there should be a referendum in Scotland on independence and if the majority want it then it should be granted. This is very unlikely to happen though for many reasons and I think that the English and Scots will be stuck together for the foreseeable future.
While I understand some Scottish grievances against the English, I do often find their attitude to be quite unpleasant. However, in return the English can often be very patronising towards the Scots.
There is also a strong possibility that the next British Prime Minister will be Scottish, sure to rile even further those English people who feel the Scots are over-represented politically.
